FAQs

Are Very Low Calorie diets suitable for everyone?

To use exante™ weight loss solutions you must have a BMI of over 20 + and be over 18 years old. Occasionally people have medical conditions or are taking medication which prevents them from starting on solutions, or which will require them to be monitored by a medical practitioner.

Do I have to have all the meal replacements?

Yes. The fat burning process can suppress feelings of hunger, but the vitamins and minerals contained in the soups, shakes and bars are essential to your well being.

How long can I do this for?

The Simple Solution and Working solution can be used until you reach your target weight of a healthy BMI. On reaching your target weight you can continue to use exante™ products in combination with healthy food to maintain your weight. If following the Total Solution you will need to take a food week break every 4 weeks and increase your calorie intake to 1200kcals per day. The Simple Solution can be followed during the food week break.

How much water should I drink?

If you do not have enough water you will become dehydrated which can lead to constipation (not nice but it will happen if you don't drink enough), headaches, lowering of blood pressure, (causing dizziness) and cramps. So make sure you drink plenty of fluids regularly through the course of the day. The amount of water you need varies from person to person so make sure you are having enough to feel comfortable. A guide for water consumption throughout the day is around 2-3 litres. (it can be harmful to consume large volumes of water or other fluids in a short space of time)

Is it like other Very Low Calorie Diets?

No. Our ethos is different; here at exante™ we like you to be in charge; that's why you decide which plan and type of support is best for you, and how much weight to lose and how quickly you want to lose it (whilst remaining within our health guidelines). And our products are different; we are the only UK total meal replacement company that does not have aspartame in our products, and are proud that our recipes have been independently developed by experts to ensure that they are as natural as possible with the highest quality ingredients. Some diet total meal replacement companies have 4 total meal replacements a day to give their clients 100% RDAs but Exante Diet products contain more volume per pack therefore 3 a day is sufficient.

What about exercise?

It can take a couple of weeks for your body to settle down to efficiently use fat for energy, so notice how your body is reacting and if you already exercise adapt your routine to suit. Make sure you drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. Once the body is geared up to getting its energy from fat, then most people report that they have a surge of energy and WANT to exercise.

What do exante products contain?

A full list of ingredients and nutritional information can be found on the resources section of our website.

What is a very low calorie diet?

A Very Low Calorie Diet is functional food that has been designed to provide all the vitamins, trace elements and nutrients as well provide good quality protein and all the essential fats that your body requires to be healthy. This means that you are having at least 100% of the recommended daily RDA’s and between 400-800 kcal per day.

The recommended number of kcals for those having convention meals is in the region of 2000 for women, and 2,500 for men. exante™ products contain about 600 or 800 kcal per day (depending on whether you have 3 or 4 meal replacements) The limited amount of calories means that your body turns to it's store of fat for extra energy and this fat burning, which is a natural process, enables you to lose weight quickly, simply and safely.

VLCD's are not a fad or diet craze. They have been used in the UK for more than 30 years, and there has been a great deal of medical research into the safety and effectiveness of VLCD which documents their use.

Water and Fluid Consumption

If you do not have enough water you will become dehydrated which can lead to constipation (not nice but it will happen if you don’t drink enough), headaches, lowering of blood pressure, (causing dizziness) and cramps. So make sure you drink plenty of fluids regularly through the course of the day. The amount of water you need varies from person to person so make sure you are having enough to feel comfortable. A guide for water consumption throughout the day is around 2-4 litres (please be advised it can be harmful to consume large volumes of water or other fluids in a short space of time.) If you are following the Working or Total Solution you should avoid flavoured water that contains citrus as this could take you out of Ketosis and slow down the fat burning process and may possibly lead to feelings of hunger. Still or sparkling water can be used. Tea and coffee will count towards your fluid intake. If you are following the Total or Working Solution then you should avoid having milk in your drinks.

What support will I receive?

We provide a booklet and a choice of free support through our team of accredited consultants online via customercare@exantediet.com. You do not have to have counselling sessions, we provide good old fashioned encouragement, support and advice to help you reach your target weight.

Which programme should I follow?

We have 3 programmes that clients can choose from; Simple Solution is exactly that, it’s a Restricted Calorie Diet; you choose 3 products per day giving you 610kcals and include a healthy balanced calorie-counted meal of 600kcals giving you a total calorie intake of 1200kcals – perfect for those who want to enjoy a meal with their family or social occasions. Please see our tasty recipe ideas or food hints and tips for more information. If followed correctly clients can expect to lose approximately 8lb – 12lb a month

Working Solution is a Low Calorie Diet and offers slightly quicker weight loss results by enjoying three total meal replacements a day and a lower-calorie meal each day of 400kcals, giving a total of 1000kcals per day. If followed correctly clients can expect to lose approximately 10lb – 12lb a month

Total Solution is a Very Low Calorie diet (610kcals). This is the ultimate in quick results, you have 3 total meal replacements each day safe in the knowledge that in doing so you will be getting 100% RDAs. If followed correctly clients can expect to lose approximately 12lb – 16lb a month.

(To use Total or Working Solution you must have a BMI of at least 25+ and have none of the contra-indications outlined in our medical guidance)

What products can I choose?

You can choose a combination of any products to make up your 3 total meal replacements a day. Some clients prefer just to have shakes and others prefer a mixture, the choice is yours. If you are following the Total or Working Solutions then we advise that you only have one bar a day as the bars contain slightly higher carbohydrates and having more than one per day could possibly take you out of Ketosis.

When should I take the products?

Each meal replacement can be taken at the most convenient time for you, but we would encourage you to time your meals in a way which enables you to develop new healthy eating habits that you can use into the future to manage your weight. You can view all our products online

Will I put it all back on again?

If you go back to your old way of eating that caused your weight gain in the first place, then you are likely to put on weight. However if you maintain weight loss with a healthy balanced diet and do not over consume in calories, then you will be able to retain your weight loss.

How much weight will I lose?

See FAQ; ‘which programme should I follow’

What is Ketosis?

Means that your body is burning fat rapidly because it is using your fat as its main source of energy. Normally our bodies use our food as our primary source of energy. Your body initially uses up its energy reserves of glycogen before starting to burn fats from its fat stores; this process normally begins after 3 – 4 days of the programme. When the glycogen stores are used up, your body will then switch its main energy source to burning your fat. When fat is burned rapidly the body produces a by-product called “ketones” and the person is said to be in ketosis and hunger will be suppressed. If clients want to monitor Ketosis then Ketosis sticks can be purchased from major chemists.

What are the side effects?

Possible Side Effects

Very low calorie diets can have temporary side effects for some individuals; these are normal and will disappear when returning to conventional food.  Most side effects are experienced in the first few days; carbohydrate and caffeine withdrawal can take place when starting on Solutions, usually causing headaches. Simple pain killers and drinking extra water will help.

Some people experience feelings of nausea or an upset tummy. This could be due the high concentration of vitamins and minerals contained in the replacement meals. Drinking water before, during and after eating can ease this.

You may get bad breath. The fat burning process (ketosis) causes a type of acetone to be released in the breath (which may result in a metallic taste in your mouth). This normally improves as the body settles down; drinking lots of water to dilute the acetones, regular brushing of teeth (and tongue) and using a mouth wash will also help. A spray breath freshener can be used.

Feeling cold is a natural side effect of being on a VLCD as the metabolic rate slows and blood flow to extremities is decreased, meaning that hands and feet can feel colder than usual. This is a temporary side effect and wrapping up warmly, drinking warm water and being more active to encourage better circulation will all help with this.

Constipation seems to be the most common side effect of being on a VLCD. Often toilet habits change for a number of reason: as you are eating a lot less food there is less to be excreted so you may not need to 'go' as often as usual.  However if it is difficult to pass motions then you may be constipated, this could be because you have not drunk enough water regularly and have become dehydrated. Increasing your water intake can help.

Cramp may occur when on a VLCD, caused by fluid imbalances in the body's tissues. The remedy is to drink more water. Sometimes adding a few grains of salt to soups or put in water at bedtime might help.

For those who use a VLCD over a period of time hair shedding can be a natural and temporary side effect. This is because a shortage of calories can cause the body to slow hair regrowth, this will return to normal following the reintroduction of conventional food.

A woman's hormone balance can alter when she loses weight. Although most are not aware of any changes, for a few, periods may change in flow, duration or frequency.

We do not exchange or substitute products that have been purchased at discounted prices.

Is it ok to buy/sell your products on Ebay?

We pride ourselves on making sure that all of our products are to the highest quality.

I have one of the medical contra-indications listed on your terms and conditions, but my GP says I am ok to follow your Total Solutions diet, why cant I do it?

If you have any contra-indications from our terms and conditions pages then we cannot allow you to follow the Total Solutions plan. This is because we do not have consultants to monitor you or your weight loss. You may be able to follow the Simple Solution as this is just classed as a Restricted Calorie Diet, but you should discuss this with your GP before embarking in any programme.

Why do you recommend consulting my GP before starting the programme?

It is good to ensure your health is being monitored before starting any kind of diet programme.

How many Calories/Carbs are in your products?

3 Meal Replacements will give you approximately 610kcals and 100% RDAs. You can download a full list of ingredients and nutrition details from the Resources section of our website.

What kind of meals would you suggest when I start to introduce conventional foods?

We advise that you begin with low carb, high protein meals, such as, fish, chicken and turkey with green salad or green vegetables. You can use the recipe section on the website to give you some ideas for suitable meal plans.

The important thing is that you have healthy balanced meals and don’t go back to old eating habits that would have led to your weight gain.

Can I have my shakes hot or soups cold?

You are able to have the shakes and soups hot or cold as it will not affect the nutritional value or weight loss. It is totally your preference.

What is aspartame and do you have it in your products?

Aspartame is a sugar substitute that is frequently used in diet products and drinks. Although not in the UK, it has been banned in some countries. We find a lot of our customers do not like to use products that contain Aspartame and therefore we do not use it in any Exante Diet products.

How many Bars can I have a day?

We only recommend that you have one bar a day. This is because the bars contain slightly more calories and carbohydrates than the Shakes and Soups.

Why do I have do have a food week break whilst on Total Solutions?

You must have the food week break every 28 days as you are following a VLCD, such as the Total Solution, without medical supervision.

During your food week break you will still have 3 meal replacements a day as well as a healthy balanced meal that is between 400 – 600 kcals. We recommend high protein / low carb meals. Any white meats, fish with green vegetables or salads.

It is also a good way of getting used to counting your own calories and eating healthy balanced meals.

Why should I avoid drinks that contain citric acid?

If you are following the Total Solution we recommend that if possible you do not have drinks that contain citric acid, as some clients may find that it brings them out of ketosis.

Is it ok to have herbal Tea when using Exante?

The only drinks that we advise when following the Total Solution programme are..

water, black tea/coffee or any green leaf teas. This is because some herbal teas may contain citric acid or fruit which can bring you out of ketosis.

Can I have low calorie/sugar free squash or fizzy diet drinks?

Whilst following Total Solutions we only recommend drinking water, black coffee/teas or any green leaf teas. Any other drinks like squash or diet fizzy drinks may take you out of ketosis due to containing fruit or citric acids.

However Exante Diet is a programme that gives the client control so in the end is up to you as long as you are aware that we would not recommend any drinks other than those we have listed.

Can I have alcohol whilst on Exante Diet?

No! alcohol contains calories and has no nutritional value.

I am Lactose Intolerant, can I use your products?

No, Exante products are not suitable for those whom are Lactose Intolerant.

How does it work?

Exante Diet have different programmes you can choose from. If you meet all
the requirements and do not have any medical contra-indications as listed on
our website then you would be able to follow the Total Solution where you
would have 3 meal replacements a day giving you a total of 610kcals and 100%
RDAs. Some diet companies have 4 meal replacements a day
to give their clients 100% RDAs but Exante Diet products contain more volume
per pack therefore 3 a day is sufficient.
The choice of the products is down to the clients, some clients have a soup,
shake and a bar while other clients prefer more shakes or soups. We
recommend that if you are following the Total Solution that you don't have
more than one bar per day along with two other products of your choice. This
is because the bars contain slightly more carbohydrates and having more than
one a day may take some clients out of Ketosis.

An alternative programme to follow would be the Exante Simple solution, this
still includes 3 meal replacements a day but also you would include a
healthy balanced meal each day of around 600kcals. This will still produce
great weight loss if followed correctly and is a great way of getting used
to calorie counting and being in control of what you eat.

The length of time clients remain on the weight loss programmes are
dependant on how much weight clients have to lose. The average weight loss
for the Total Solution is approximately 1 stone a month and the other
programmes will enable clients to lose approximately 9lb a month. If
following the Total Solution we recommend that clients take a break every 28 days and follow the Simple Solution for the food break week.

Information leaflets are included with the products and information can also
be found on our resources section of the website, but in the mean time
please email if you require any further advice.

Once following the programme clients can have support and advice via
Customer Care.

Can I chew gum?

Chewing gum may bring you out of ketosis as gastric juices are released.  If you feel chewing gum will help you to sustain your diet then it is your own individual choice. If possible you should try not to chew for more than a few minutes.

Why do you check my waist size?

Measuring your waist can give an indication of where you store the fat in your body. It is not only your BMI that can be an indicator of greater risks of health problems; your waist measurements can also indicate risk. If your body stores too much fat around your abdomen, you increase your risk of conditions like:

• Heart disease

• Type 2 diabetes

For women, it is important to note that if you have a waist size of over 80cm (31.5 inches) you have a higher risk of suffering from the consequences of being overweight. Your risk increases further if your waist size is over 88cm (34.5 inches). For men, if your waist size is over 94cm (37 inches) your risk increases, and the risk increases further if your waist size is over 102cm (40 inches). When we calculate your BMI we will also offer you guidance on your waist measurement.

* Waist measurement explanations may differ for people of South Asian descent as they are at a higher risk of developing diseases at a lower waist circumference. The ideal waist measurement for South Asian women is under 80cm (31.5 inches). The ideal waist measurement for South Asian men is under 90cm (35 inches) *
