What is BMI?

By dividing your weight by your height, BMI calculates the weight range that you currently fit in, whether you’re ‘underweight’, a ‘healthy’ weight, ‘overweight’, or ‘obese’ for your height. BMI is often used to help medical professionals assess the risk for chronic disease within a patient. Please note: your BMI works solely on weight and cannot tell you whether you are carrying too much fat, as it cannot tell the difference between excess fat, muscle or bone.

Understanding your BMI result (Underweight)

Underweight BMI range: Below 18.5

As you currently fall into the underweight category, we would not recommend that you lose any additional weight. We recommend that you see your GP to seek advice on gaining weight to achieve a healthy BMI.

Understanding your BMI result (Healthy Weight)

Healthy Weight BMI range: 18.5 - 25

As you currently fall in to the healthy weight category, weight loss may not be necessary for you at this time. We suggest speaking to a healthcare professional before embarking on a weight loss plan.

Understanding your BMI result (Overweight)

Overweight BMI range: 25 - 30

As your BMI currently falls into the overweight category, we have a number of plans that can help you with your weight loss goals.

Understanding your BMI result (Obese)

Obese BMI range: Above 30

Please consult a medical professional before making any changes to your diet
