Q: What made you decide to lose weight?
A: Everything started last February, when my own mothers health made me realise how horrible it is, to watch someone you love make themselves ill. I was a heavy smoker, and very obese. I realised that 20 years from now, I might be sitting across the table from my own daughter, making her feel the same way I feel towards my mother now. And that was if i was lucky enough to even have a child and live that long. That was the day I quit smoking, after 13 years, and never looked back. Fastforward a few months, where I did some traditional dieting of healthy food, lost 10 lbs around April 2016, then it went up and down, and I had gained 8 of those lbs back by August. I was on a romantic trip with my boyfriend, and we spent almost a full day sitting by the water, which was lovely, but it was also really shameful for me. The reason was that I was unable to walk very far, I'd get pain in my legs and feet almost instantly after getting up. Later that day, we were running late for a train, and I was SO close to sitting down to cry in the middle of the street, because I couldn't walk any further. Complete breakdown point. I started my diet the day after coming home from that trip, on August 18th. Many of those same thoughts as when I quit smoking, served as a motivator to keep me going. Imagining how my future child might see me and what else the future would likely have in store for me, was my number 1 reason. I was sick of obesity being a factor of everything in my life, in so many ways, as it had always been.
