Ketones have been getting a lot of hype in the media of late and we wanted to explain why. Further evidence has shown that beyond fat, carbs and protein, there is a fourth (and possibly most effective) means to fuel your body.

An American company HVMN have teamed up with Oxford University and spent over $60 million on research into Ketones and how these effect the body.

So, what are Ketones?

Ketones are what the body naturally produces when it burns fat at a rapid rate. When the body has depleted levels of glycogen, it turns to using fat as fuel instead. This is where the body enters a state of ketosis and the ketones work their magic.

Ketosis-based Diets

Our Total Solution plan works on reducing your calorie and carbohydrate intake, in order to allow your body to enter in to a state of ketosis. A lot of the food we eat day to day contains carbs; fruit, vegetables, pasta, bread, the list goes on. All of these are broken down in to glucose and then used as a source of energy.

However, when we reduce the intake of such foods and restrict the amount of carbohydrates we eat, the body turns to fat as a source of energy instead, meaning greater weight loss results. All of our Exante meal replacement products have been specifically formulated to allow you to enter a state of ketosis, when following our Total Solution plan strictly.

The Research behind Ketones

The $60 million research that has been underway by American start-up HVMN and Oxford University has found incredible results. In addition, countless studies have taken place to see how people lost weight on a keto-based diet vs those on a low-fat diet. Nearly all results pointed towards a keto-based diet. It was found that the presence of ketones in your body increased athletic performance and contributed to greater weight loss.

HVMN's research resulted in the creation of a ketone drink to give elite athletes a performance boost. The drink comes with 120 calories and has proven to provide the body with similar effects as fasting for a few days. However, with zero fat, protein and carbohydrates it is currently being used as an additional source of fuel for athletes looking to increase performance. Their full study can be read here.

Ketones and exante

The exante Total Solution plan promotes a ketogenic state through calorie restriction and reducing carbohydrate intake. When followed strictly, your body produces ketones, the new found answer to weight loss and performance. Head to our 'What is Ketosis?' page for more information.
